DA TumbTumb
DA TumbTumb is the result of research into the typographic experiments of Italian Futurism, particularly the parole in libertà compositions and dynamic page layouts developed by Filippo Tommaso Marinetti during the early decades of the twentieth century. Its name directly references Zang Tumb Tumb (1914), the seminal work in which verbal language is transformed into image, rhythm, and sound.
The typeface captures the visual spirit of Futurist publications, reinterpreting letterforms found in books, posters, and printed materials of the period. The design features an extremely condensed structure, conceived to occupy as little space as possible while maintaining a strong visual presence. Its vertical strokes are slender and taut, while the curves remain restrained and essential, reinforcing a sense of upward movement and verticality.
The interplay between rigorous construction and subtle irregularities gives the typeface a lively yet mechanical appearance, evoking the tension between typographic tradition and modernity that defined the Futurist movement. DA TumbTumb is a display typeface suited to headlines, posters, and editorial projects requiring a distinctive historical and experimental character, capable of conveying the visual energy of the Italian avant-garde through a contemporary interpretation.
